Equipping Preachers and Bible Colleges with Books

For thousands of Christians throughout the Majority World, accessing Christian books and theological resources is out of reach. There is no Christian bookstore down the road, nor is there an online shop that easily ships what they need to their home, church or university. In addition to this, most places under-resourced by books are also limited in their access to quality internet – making coming by information extremely challenging.

Without books…

  • Seminaries cannot offer high-level degrees
  • Preachers are unsupported in studying the bible more widely and deeply
  • Theological students are limited in their ability to learn and progress
  • And the church is limited through shallow theology, untrained leaders and unresourced preachers

This is what makes providing resources to these countries so crucial.

Growing libraries with accessible, contextual books

For the majority of seminary libraries in the countries Langham works in, they want more literature resources but simply lack the funding to acquire them. Most of the books these libraries do have are written by Western authors, so they have limited understanding of local context and culture.

This is a big part of why Langham Literature exists.

For nearly 40 years, Langham Literature has supplied seminary and Bible college libraries with high-quality evangelical books and literature. Each year, Langham’s Library Grant Catalogue is sent out to over 1,330 seminaries and colleges in the Majority World.

Last year, we supplied 685 theological institutes across 84 countries with 7,375 books through our Library Grant programme. This means an estimated 110,000+ students at theological institutes across the Majority World gained access to improved libraries and literature thanks to Langham Literature!

In Uganda, the Kiwoko Bible Institute is one such who has benefited from this programme. The Institute has been a beacon of hope and learning for over 17 years in Uganda, and Langham has been able to resource them for the future.

Shadrach shares, “We are so grateful to God for Langham Partnership, and for the literature you sent us. These books are now in our library, and our pastors will use them for their studies next month. Every year we take in a lot of 30 to 50 pastors. For the last 17 years, we’ve had over 500 pastors training. These are pastors in villages who would not get the opportunity to enrol in a theological school for many reasons – money, time, and other things. Coming here is a great opportunity for them to learn God’s Word. Having these additional resources allows us to do a better job in the lives of these men and women of God.”

Seminaries like Kiwoko and others rely heavily on the support of Langham.

  • 100% of participating institutes use books from Langham as required reading or course textbooks
  • 92% use books from Langham to prepare courses
  • 84% would not be able to acquire the specific books their library needs without Langham book programmes
  • 71% of the participating institutes are able to educate more students because of books sent by Langham.

What a powerful impact such physically small things – books – are having across the Majority World.

This end-of-financial-year, can you give to ensure more people in the Majority World are blessed by important books and resources?

Growing better, faithful preachers

Each year Langham provides thousands of books and booklets to participants at, or Coordinators of, Langham Preaching seminars and clubs. These directly benefit pastors and lay preachers who are seeking to teach faithfully from the Bible in their churches.

One preaching coordinator in South Asia shared, “I have received the packet of books. Thank you so much. I am deeply grateful to Langham Preaching for sharing its resources with us so that we can be better faithful preachers of the Word.”

Another recipient said, “Thank you. I am deeply grateful to Langham for the continued support I am receiving in equipping me in my preaching ministry. May the Lord continue to prosper Langham.”

More than just a number of books or pages or words, these resources are practical assets that are seeing the church in many places grow and become mature through the Word of God!
