Malaysia preaching seminar May 2012
Langham Preaching Offers Ongoing Help to Preachers

In this eNews I want to share with you a wonderful innovation in Langham Preaching’s ongoing support of the thousands of men and women who have been a part of the Preaching Programme training around the globe.

This year, a new and exciting “service” to participants of Langham Preaching seminars has begun.  Participants who have access to email now receive preaching HELPS on a monthly basis.

Each of the monthly HELPS sheets is brief, conveying a single important message to help preachers preach more clearly, faithfully and with relevance to their audience.  The HELPS sheets were initiated by Jennifer Cuthbertson, Coordinator for Trainer Development for Langham Preaching, and are being translated into French and Spanish to be accessible to as many preachers as possible around the world.

The August 2013 HELPS sheet, the fourth in the series (see picture), was suggested by Ma’afu Palu – Langham Scholar from Tonga who studied in Australia and is known to many of us here in Australia and increasingly to many pastors and students across the Pacific.  It is titled “Walk Hand-in-Hand” and reminds preachers of the importance of evaluating each other’s sermons to help refine and improve their preaching. This message ties in so well with a key aspect of Langham Preaching – the formation and ongoing activity of local Preachers Clubs, which all Langham Preaching participants are encouraged to join and actively participate in.

Langham Preaching Trainers often hear positive feedback about the value of the training. As one Pastor from a Pacific nation said, “The early days of my ministry I felt out of my depth. Praise God – this training is equipping me with tools to help me in God’s ministry”.

The preachers’ clubs and now the Helps sheets provide ongoing guidance and support to the many preachers around the world who have benefitted from the Langham training.

Please pray for these monthly HELP sheets as they go out – that they are used well in Preaching Clubs, in Churches, in Colleges, by individual Pastors and Bible teachers in their own preparation and preaching and in their training of others.  Please pray too for Jennifer as she prepares these monthly ‘offerings’ and that God will bless and use this ministry.

For your prayers
  • Please pray for this year’s Langham Partnership International Council meetings being held in the UK late October, early November. Please pray for Langham Australia Chair, Trevor Cork, who is also the Chair of the LPIC, and for Wendy Toulmin as they travel to the UK for these meetings.
  • Jonathan Lamb has now stepped down from his role as Director of Langham Preaching. Give thanks to God for the way He has blessed the work so abundantly under Jonathan and Margaret’s leadership. From small beginnings, this work now has an active presence in some seventy countries. Please pray for Paul Windsor in the role of Interim Preaching Director, for the team working to appoint a new International Director and for Jonathan and Margaret as they seek God’s future ministry for them.
  • Please pray for the many people around the world who are involved with our large Langham Literature commentary projects. We would ask for prayer that they would be able to find a healthy balance between work and rest and to know the wisdom of God as they serve Him in often very difficult personal circumstances.
  • Ronald, Langham Scholar (Myanmar) gives thanks his wife and children are all well and he asks for prayer as he works at revising his thesis for final submission, which he hopes will be just before Christmas. He also asks us to pray for healing of a problem with his right ear – that he will get the right intervention to deal with his hearing loss and dizziness.
  • Qaiser, Langham Scholar (Pakistan) also gives thanks his wife and children are all well and that his studies are progressing well. He asks us to pray for him as he travels to Pakistan during November for research, and for his family in his absence. Please also continue to pray for the Christians in Pakistan, that God would grant them healing, protection and peace.
