Langham Preaching in Indonesia: a story of amazing growth
Langham Preaching in Indonesia began in June 2011 with a Level One training for 83 participants from 14 of the 26 provinces of this vast country of more than 243 million people and 17,000 islands. Right from the start, all three National Church Bodies, (Ecumenical, Evangelical and Pentecostal) have endorsed the Langham Preaching Program. Participants were encouraged to form preaching clubs to support each other in developing their skills in biblical preaching and 16 were formed at this time. September 2011, a Level Two training was held, followed by a Level Three in May 2012. By this time, 110 preacher's clubs had been formed!
The first Training of Trainers was held in November 2012.
There has been and continues to be a high demand for the training right across the country. As at the end of August 2013, 1500 people have taken the Level One training! The vast majority of these people have been trained by the team of 34 Indonesian trainers being equipped for the task
In mid-August 2013, the Indonesian Core Preaching Team, along with Paul Windsor (Langham Preaching), Wendy Toulmin (Langham Australia) and Paul Barker (Langham Preaching Facilitator, CMSA Missionary) met for a ‘Rest Area on the Journey’ to discuss the progress of the movement and plan for its future. We discussed aspects of the movement that are encouraging, things that are presenting challenges and strategies for the next stage of the journey.

In his report of the meeting Paul Windsor wrote: "I continue to marvel at all that God is doing through this skilled, committed and gracious team in Indonesia. It is an immense privilege to know them as friends and work with them as colleagues."
Please pray for this exciting work in Indonesia - that the growth will be consolidated and sustained, that participants will put into practice what they have learned and that God would grant the leaders wisdom as they take the work forward. Pray also for Langham Australia as we seek to support the Programme.
One of the very special ‘side benefits’ of my time in Indonesia was getting to know Dwi Handayani, one of the Indonesian Preaching team, pictured here (on right) with Dr Riad Kassis (International Director, Langham Scholars) and Dr Shirley Ho (Langham Scholar from the Philippines, working in Taiwan for the past 7 years); and to see a wonderful friendship of support and encouragement begin with these two special women! Dwi, an Indonesian, is pursuing her PhD in the Philippines, to return to the Bandung Seminary where she has been teaching.

A note from Riad Kassis (International Scholars Director)
It was my sheer delight to visit Sydney for the first time. I was impressed with the respect and reputation towards Langham Partnership ministry. In all the four theological institutions that I visited I felt a great sense of willingness to collaborate with Langham. It was also a delight to see the interest of Australian sisters and brothers in the issues that face the Christians of the Middle East — having the opportunity to speak at two evening gatherings, the Reachout Mission Conference in Katoomba and to preach at the Merrylands East Presbyterian Church on the Sunday morning. Thanks to all for making my visit a fruitful and memorable one!
Pray for them as they seek to discern what the next season of service will look like for them, and please remember the selection team charged with finding the next Preaching Director
Please pray for the Langham Preaching facilitators who will be involved in the training itself, and for Jonathan Lamb and Paul Windsor as they coordinate the Langham Preaching programme.
